"Ma" Rainey began performing at the age of 12 and would become known as the "Mother of the Blues" over the course of her 37 year career. She was known for a booming, powerful voice that would "wail" and "moan" the blues, and she spent time touring with some of the best musicians of the time including Louis Armstrong. In 2004, 64 years after her death, "Ma" Rainey was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame for her 1925 release See See Rider Blues. Scott 2859 Ma Rainey
